Question by ……….: What is the best tablet for older people.?
We are getting my grandparents a tablet pc for Christmas. We are wondering what is the easiest and cheapest to use tablet. iPads are out of the question due to price. They need a front facing camera for Skype and a few old person games like suduko and crossword puzzles. The bigger the screen size the better because my grandpa had fat fingers. We are thinking of the kindle fire hd 8.9, if anybody has that please comment on how easy it is to use because I have never used one. Keep in mind they are not good at using technology and they are moving down to Florida so I will not be able to help them except over the phone so ease of use is important. Thank you.

The larger Kindle Fire might work. I’m older, and my eyes aren’t great, so go for something with a bit more size. You might want to look into prior generation ipads. You can get “like new’ refurbished ones from apple, and some places sell them new also. They are cheaper than new ones, and ipads really are the best and have the most apps.

I agree with the other answer that an older iPad is still the best idea – iPads are the absolute simplest to use of any tablet and have the most apps, and since they are common, it would be easier for them to get help using them (no matter WHAT they get, you won’t be able to help them over the phone unless you have the same product in front of you, or are at least very familiar with it).

You can buy a used one on eBay, or a refurbished recent one from Apple’s online store. You could also consider a new iPad Mini; the screen isn’t that much smaller and the price is lower.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is pretty good tablet. The UI is pretty easy and you get good quality of talk over skype with the front facing HD camera.
